How are Las Virgenes Unified School District schools performing?
LVUSD schools have a long history of strong academic performance, and recent results show continued improvement. This year, the District achieved its highest test scores on record, along with its highest graduation rate and highest AP exam performance to date.
LVUSD serves approximately 10,000 students across 14 schools in Agoura Hills, Calabasas, Hidden Hills, Westlake Village, and Bell Canyon. District schools continue to be recognized for strong academics, college readiness, highly qualified teachers, and award-winning arts, music, and athletics programs.
How are LVUSD’s schools funded?
Since 2004, LVUSD has benefited from local school parcel tax funding approved by voters. This funding supplements unstable and inadequate funding from the State that only supports a basic education. Locally controlled parcel tax funding allows LVUSD to attract and retain qualified and experienced teachers, maintain class sizes, and support advanced academic programs in subjects like math, science, technology, and engineering. Unless renewed by voters, this funding is set to expire.
What will happen if local school parcel tax funding expires?
Unless renewed by voters, local school parcel tax funding will expire soon and over $2 million will need to be cut from the LVUSD budget, forcing teacher layoffs, cuts to academic programs, and increased class sizes.
Is LVUSD considering renewing local parcel tax funding?
To help prevent cuts to teaching and academic programs, the LVUSD Board of Education voted to place a parcel tax renewal measure, Measure LV, on the November 3, 2026 ballot that would renew local funding at the current $98 per year rate. Measure LV would not increase tax rates.
How would funds from Measure LV be used?
If approved, Measure LV would continue providing approximately $2 million annually in locally controlled school funding and would continue to be used to:

Would current fiscal accountability protections continue with Measure LV?
Measure LV would continue strict fiscal accountability, oversight, and transparency protections, including:

An independent oversight committee, annual audits, and public spending disclosure would continue to ensure funds are spent as promised

Funds cannot be used for administrator salaries

Homeowners age 65 and older would continue to be eligible for an exemption and do not need to reapply
Would Measure LV increase taxes?
No. The Measure LV would not increase taxes above the $98 rate local property owners currently pay. Measure LV would extend the current tax rate without an increase.
How long would Measure LV last?
If approved, Measure LV would renew local parcel tax funding for 12 years. This is the same duration as the last renewal measure approved by voters in 2015. After 12 years that measure will automatically expire unless renewed by 66.7% of voters.
Has LVUSD spent parcel tax funds as promised?

Would an exemption from the cost continue to be available for senior citizens?
Yes. Senior citizen homeowners would continue to be eligible for an exemption from the cost of Measure LV. Those who are already exempt do not need to reapply.
Are any other exemptions available?
Low-income homeowners with disabilities are eligible for an exemption from the cost of Measure LV. Exemptions for seniors and low-income people with disabilities are the only exemptions allowed for by state law.
Could the State or other school districts take parcel tax funding away from Las Virgenes schools?
By law, no funds from Measure LV can be taken away by the State or redirected to other school districts. All funds from Measure LV must be locally controlled and used in Las Virgenes schools only.
I don’t have children attending local schools. How would this renewal measure impact me?
Even if you do not have school-age children, studies show that maintaining quality education in local schools makes the area attractive to families, which creates demand for local homes and keeps property values strong.
When will we vote on Measure LV? What level of support is required for approval?
The LVUSD Board of Education voted to place Measure LV on the November 3, 2026 ballot. To be approved, the measure must receive support from at least 66.7% of voters who vote on the issue.
